Sea Serpents Safeguarding 〰️

The safety, welfare, and well-being of our members are top priorities. We are committed to creating a rugby environment that is safe, inclusive, respectful, and supportive for everyone regardless of age, background, gender identity, sexuality, ability, or experience level.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Every member has the right to enjoy rugby in a safe and positive environment.

Aaron Coomber

Safeguarding Officer

    • Promote a culture of respect, dignity, and inclusion

    • Take all welfare concerns seriously

    • Respond to concerns promptly and appropriately

    • Handle safeguarding matters sensitively and, where possible, confidentially

    • Follow best practice guidance from the Rugby Football Union (RFU)

    • Work to prevent bullying, harassment, discrimination, and abuse

    • Suppport members who raise concerns in good faith

  • Protecting people’s health, wellbeing, and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse, and neglect.

    • Physical safety at training and matches

    • Emotional and psychological wellbeing

    • Protection from bullying, harassment, or discrimination

    • Appropriate conduct by players, coaches, and volunteers

    • Safe use of changing rooms and social spaces

    • Online and social media safety

Safeguarding applies to all members, not just children or vulnerable adults.

  • Aaron Coomer is the club’s designated safeguarding officer, who is the first point of contact for any welfare or safeguarding concerns.

    • Listen to concerns without judgement

    • Offer advice and guidance

    • Explain reporting options

    • Support members through the process

    • Escalate concerns when necessary in line with RFU procedures

You do not need proof to raise a concern, if something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to speak up.

  • You should consider speaking to the Safeguarding Officer if:

    • You feel unsafe or uncomfortable

    • You experience or witness bullying or harassment

    • Someone’s behaviour is inappropriate or concerning

    • A boundary has been crossed

    • You are worried about another member’s welfare

    • Something just doesn’t feel right

    No concern is “too small.”
